NEW BUILDING FOR THE FACULTY OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES AT THE UNIVERSTIY CITY OF THE COMPLUTENSE UNIVERSITY OF MADRID (1987)

MEMORY
A full new building along the residual, rear facades of existing other buildings completed Sciences Plaza initiated in 1932. It is an exercise of collage architecture with other two rationalistic buildings in the plaza. Both basement and ground floor are tucked in to the facade line with a porch to allow for natural illumination in all classrooms and conference rooms. Administrative spaces are located 2 stories over the porch. Professors’ offices are all together on the last 2 floors. The Departments are separated by differentiated vertical nuclei except in the last 2 floors. A basement is created for research, library and laboratories. The large auditorium and assembly hall penetrates into the underground center of the block. Facade composition is analogical to the other rationalistic buildings of the square. All interior corridors have skylines and open balconies on all floors.
