DIFFERENT PROJECTS FOR THE REHABILITATION FOR MADRID SUBWAY STATIONS AND MOBILE UNITS (1984- 1987)

MEMORY

As a result of winning an International Competition, the Subway Company of Madrid asked in 1984 for a prototypical design of rehabilitation of more than 130 existing subway stations. The series of developed projects received the PREMIO JOSÉ LUIS SERT, awarded by the Metropolitan Corporation of Barcelona, recognizing the rehabilitation of the Madrid Subway Stations: “Ópera”, “Núñez de Balboa”, “Goya Línea 4” and “Sol”, as well as, the rehabilitation of the 2 wagon units, old and new, of the subway company in Madrid. The project includes a system of waterproofing vaults and acoustic insulation in the back of a new double vault of glazed steel, complete redevelopment of a vertical wall with all services and substituting existing gigantic publicity with an electronic, advertising frieze that also includes pieces of art. Fully climatized air conditioning, exhaustion, fire protection and lighting to the vaults and edge of the platform are provided.

The projects of “Goya Línea 4” and “Sol” were executed in collaboration with the consulting engineering firms (TYPSA, EYSIR). From the first prototype and the constructed examples, the company has developed many stations.
