NEW HEADQUARTERS FOR RADIO-TELEVISION MADRID AT CIUDAD DE LA IMAGEN, POZUELO, MADRID (1997)

MEMORY

Commissioned by the Autonomous Region of Madrid and the public company Radio-Televisión Madrid, this building houses in one space what was previously distributed among several buildings in the city. Its suburban character and the interesting mix of employment, from politicians to journalists and electronic technicians to blue-collar workers in the TV and radio studios (i.e. carpenters, sound technicians, camera operators etc.). In order to get a full functional interrelationship and visual connection among working employees, political directors and performing actors, 2 cubic atriums were constructed. The first one is an open cloister surrounded by offices and facilitating restricted entrance to the complex. The second one is a closed cloister with perimetral galleries connecting all vertical nuclei of circulation, of elevators, utility shafts and service rooms. This complex square composition is again surrounded by 3 TV studios and their adjacent pre-assembly rooms, storage and workshops as well as garage and utility installations. This solid volumetry of cubical macles constitute a very solid visual landmark which peaks in the communications tower. The total size if of 26.998 constructed m2. The building, fully equipped, was developed simultaneously with electronic facilities whose cost equaled that of the  construction in 1997,  up to 1.000 €/m2.
